from our match chairman...

WOW! Awesome. Glorious Indeed!

The GMDC Match in conjunction with the AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day was a Steamy Success!

The 2nd Annual GMDC Club Match in conjunction with the AKC’s RDO Day was held at Belen Jesuit High School, Sunday the 16th. The weather was great, although a bit hot and steamy, with the rain hovering close and only making a refreshing, momentary appearance.

The turnout was better than last year, with more than 25 breeds present, over 60 dogs entered, including Rat Terriers that are the newest breed now accepted by the AKC in the miscellaneous class.

Work started early at 7 AM as the busy bee volunteers that showed up at the crack of dawn transformed the Belen Jesuit High school baseball field into a temporary dog show venue. The canine event was covered by a Miami Herald reporter and attended by over a hundred participants.

Besides the conformation and obedience match, there were a half dozen special canine interest groups participating as part of the nationwide AKC-sponsored Responsible Dog Ownership Day event.

The slogan for this year’s match was “It’s All About The Dogs” and all those that came out and supported our club’s annual-to-be match proved how tight our dog community is with a very fun-filled day of friendly chitchat, camaraderie and canine competition. If you missed this year’s event, mark your calendars for next year’s match, as the wheels are already turning to make it even a better one.

A great big thank you to all that came out and volunteered their time, especially the judges, Debbie Bates, Hector Hector, Pino Renzulli, Grace Acosta, Jackie Kurzban and CGC Evaluator Maki Nieto-Menendez.

Thank you to the ring stewards and ring attendants Stuart Drake, GMDC members Arlene Tanel, Diane Snowden and Jessie Herzon.

Thank you to the boys from Belen Jesuit that Grace had come by to help.

A huge thank you to Jessie and Johanna Herzon that prepared all the paperwork in advanced and then manned the registration and provided the judges with their assignments. Thank you to Ryan Herzon and Mathew Menendez for running the concession stand. Thank you to those that hung around at the conclusion to clean up, there were so many I know I will forget some, Lourdes and Peter Cofino, Wilmay and Pino Renzuli, Grace and the Rottie Rescue group, the Chambray gang……….. Maki and Angel Menendez, Wanda and Courtney, Rosie Feeley, Faith and Neil Wasserman, Kathy and Karen Gjertsen, Ray and Lydia Castellanos, Susy and Bill Felix and others.

If you guys are game, I am! Let’s do it again next year!
